On 24th and 25th November 2010, SEE partners from Belgium, Estonia, Ireland, Slovenia and UK visited the Dott Cornwall project in the South West of England. Dott stands for Designs of the Time. Dott Cornwall is bringing together local communities and world-class designers to work on projects that improve how the people of Cornwall live, work and play. By applying creative thinking and developing innovative design solutions the Dott team will make change happen for a sustainable and inclusive society. The projects are breathing new life into deprived areas, improving public transport options and co-designing a low carbon economy.
Dott Cornwall is part of a programme of events developed by the Design Council, driving design-led solutions to economic and social challenges throughout the UK. The Design Council, Cornwall Council, University College Falmouth and Technology Strategy Board have partnered to deliver the Dott programme throughout Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly during 2010. For more information visit: www.dottcornwall.com
The Dott programme was one of the good practices on design promotion identified during the SEE project. It was first presented during the SEE Thematic Workshop in Lyon (June 2009) and specific case studies were used to illustrate the SEE project ideas in the second Policy Booklet. As an example of good practice, Design Wales thought that it would be a good opportunity to visit the site and learn more about the development of this programme. For this reason, this visit is being organised giving the opportunity for partners to join with their policy-makers.
